Useful Resources to help you explore the field of general aviation.
Madison Area Fixed Base Operators (FBO)
Wisconsin Aviation – "Wisconsin Aviation is the state's premier, full-service provider of general aviation services including charter, flight training, aircraft rental, aircraft sales, maintenance, avionics, interiors, and line services."
Our take: Wisconsin Aviation is located on the east ramp of Dane County Regional Airport. This is where the Wisconsin Flying Team is based and many of our student pilots train out of Wisconsin Aviation. Flying out of Wisconsin Aviation will allow you to experience and practice communications with Air Traffic Control. Also, you will witness the charms of airline (Delta, American Airlines) and military operations (Wisconsin Air National Guard is located at the southern end of the airport).
Morey Airplane Company – "From business travel to flight instruction, oil changes to annual inspections, we offer a full range of aviation products and services. A full service FBO is open 7 days a week offering overnight parking, hangar space, fuel services, maintenance, rental cars, charter flying and flight instruction."
Our take: Morey Airplane Company is based at Morey Field in the City of Middleton on the west side of Madison. The airport does not have a control tower and has significantly less traffic than Dane County Regional Airport. A couple of our current pilots trained out of Morey Airplane Company. Flying out of Morey Field will allow you to save some fuel cost as a result of low traffic.
